Programme Overview
The polytechnic wing opened in 2016 and has become one of the most useful things MIT does. It takes students straight after class 10 and produces employable technicians in three years — at ₹42,000 a year, less than half the cost of a degree, on the same campus, using the same workshops and laboratories as the B.Tech students.
It is also a route rather than a dead end. Diploma holders who perform well qualify for lateral entry directly into year two of the B.Tech, at MIT or elsewhere. Around a third of each cohort takes that path; the rest go to work, and many return years later for an evening certificate.

Shared across all four streams. Teaching is bilingual in the first year, which matters for students arriving from Hindi-medium schools at sixteen.

The Lateral Entry Route
A diploma from MIT is a complete qualification on its own, but it is also the cheapest honest route into an engineering degree. Students who complete the diploma with the qualifying marks can enter B.Tech year two directly through UPJEE (Poly) — skipping the first year entirely.

In the 2025 cycle, 88% of eligible diploma students who chose employment received an offer, with a median starting salary of ₹2.4 LPA rising quickly with experience. A further 33% of the cohort opted for lateral entry into a B.Tech instead of taking a job.
